The Acura RDX and the Mazda CX-5 are a couple sleek SUVs. Each one features a streamlined design, classic leather seats, and premium amenities. Which one is right for you, though? The team at Maus Acura of North Tampa put together this 2020 Acura RDX vs. Mazda CX-5 comparison to help drivers in Westchase, Tampa, and Pebble Creek, FL, decide.

Performance Specs

The 2020 Acura RDX lives up to its aerodynamic design with a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. It delivers an exciting drive with 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. To manage this sporty powertrain, you'll have a 10-speed automatic transmission. While it delivers quick gear shifts, you'll also have the opportunity to take control of the gears with Sequential SportShift paddle shifters.

The Mazda CX-5 also offers paddle shifters, but it's not as much fun to drive. It features a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that can only deliver up to 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. It's not quite as capable, either, with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission.

Infotainment System

The Acura RDX ties its stylish interior together with a 10.2-inch HD screen on top of the dashboard. To navigate the system, you'll have a convenient touchpad on the center console. You'll be able to sync your smartphone and enjoy the following features while you drive:

  • Bluetooth® HandsFree Link® and audio streaming
  • SMS, MMS text message, and email capability
  • Apple CarPlay®
  • Android Auto™

On top of making hands-free calls, voice recognition comes standard, so you can select a song or open an app without taking your eyes off the road. In addition to streaming music from your phone, you'll also be able to enjoy lots of variety with SiriusXM® Satellite Radio and HD Radio®.

The Mazda CX-5 also offers lots of smartphone compatibility, but very few features come standard. While it does include Bluetooth®, features like Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio aren't available on the first few trim levels. Plus, it only has a small 7-inch touch screen.

Safety & Driver-Assistance Features

The Acura RDX also includes lots of technology that can help keep you safe. It comes with eight airbags and all sorts of driver-assistance features. You'll have more awareness during your drive with standard features such as:

  • Forward Collision Warning System
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
  • Lane Keeping Assist System

In addition to all the sensors located around your SUV, you'll be able to see what's behind you using the Multi-View Rear Camera with dynamic guidelines. To check every angle of your vehicle, you can switch to a bird's-eye view using the Surround-View Camera System.

The Mazda CX-5 includes some similar driver-assistance features. However, there's no camera system that can create an overhead view of your SUV. Plus, you and your passengers may not be as fully protected with only six airbags.
