2023 Acura TLX vs 2023 Honda Accord

A trusty sedan should be able to do it all with ease. It's easy to love a car that can get you on the road fast and get you to your destination safely, bonus points if there's some fun factor. The Honda Accord may be known for being on the lower end of the price scale, but that is clear from the less-than-satisfactory quality of the overall build. If you want a sedan that will bring a smile to your face while bringing joy to everyone who's along for the ride, you'll find that the new 2023 Acura TLX is the better option.

Performance

Every driver is different, so it's always nice to have options. The standard TLX engine is a 2.0L VTEC Turbo with 272 horsepower which will get you to where you want to go swiftly. However, upgrading to the Type S variant will bring you even more power with a 3.0L Turbo V6 engine capable of 355 horsepower that'll back you up for those times you're trying to show off to your friends. The new TLX is also designed for supreme handling in both body structure and advanced driving technology. The available Adaptive Damper system actively works to keep your grip on the road and assist you around corners, and of course, the TLX is supported by Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (or SH-AWD) for more control over your drive. The TLX has so many racing elements that even the electro-servo braking system is taken directly from the NSX supercar!

The new 2023 Honda Accord also has two engines to choose from, but both of them are incredibly disappointing in comparison. The standard powertrain is a 1.5L turbo engine only capable of 192 horsepower, and the available hybrid engine isn't much better at 204 horsepower. There aren't any advanced driving technologies to note, and there are only 4 selectable drive modes whereas the TLX has more. There is also a point to be taken in the transmission aspect. The Accord utilizes a CVT which many drivers try to avoid as they don't like the feel of this particular style, whereas the TLX comes in a much smoother and satisfying 10-speed.

Safety Features

As with many new vehicles nowadays, both the TLX and Accord have their respective versions of standard safety features which the brands refer to as AcuraWatch and Honda Sensing. Both of these collections include today's basics such as automatic braking, traffic alerts, lane-keeping systems, and so on. Aside from Acura offering an available surround-view camera, there's not much difference between these two contenders. However, some people may prefer the clean look and feel of Acura's driver-assist technologies which can play a huge part in your overall experience since these are features that you will most likely be using daily. Like upgrading your mattress, you might as well go with a layout that you're comfortable with if it's going to be a regular part of your life.

Interior

Speaking of getting comfortable, the TLX's cabin is unlike your average sedan in the best way possible. The moment you step into an upgraded model, you're greeted with authentic materials and distinct ambient lighting. High-grade materials include open-pore wood, full-grain leather, and genuine metal accents. As an added touch, the seats are designed with your inner racer in mind with bolstered ergonomic sports seats, and the aesthetic continues on with the flat-bottomed steering wheel, sports pedals, and paddle shifters. Your entertainment is also a priority with the available ELS Studio 3D audio system complete with 17 speakers, 4 of which are integrated into the headliner.

Don't expect anything too flashy in the new Accord. The leather seating is incredibly plain next to the TLX's quilted pattern, and there are no fancy materials lining the dashboard. There is a patterned mesh trim, but as you can imagine, it will collect use rather quickly and will be difficult to clean. You can opt for an available Bose audio system, but it only comes with 12 speakers rather than 17. Really, the new Accord is exactly what you would expect from a barebones budget sedan.

Bottom Line

If you want a car that's more than your typical sedan, then the new 2023 Acura TLX is the ride you're looking for. Both engines are so powerful that you can't go wrong, and the available driving technologies allow you to easily transition from an ordinary drive to a thrilling joy ride with a cabin experience to back up your adventurous mood. Meanwhile, the Accord will continue being the plain and average choice for those who simply want a car and nothing more.
