2023 Acura TLX vs 2023 Infiniti Q50
Why choose between luxury and performance when you can have the best of both worlds in a single car? Not many brands can pull off such a feat, but Acura and Infiniti have upped their game to bring you worthy options like the TLX and the Q50. But which one is actually worth your hard-earned cash? The experts at Maus Acura of North Tampa will break it all down.
2023 Acura TLX vs 2023 Infiniti Q50
Both the new 2023 Acura TLX and Infiniti Q50 are very similar, but the TLX offers a little more at a lower starting price. After taking a look at the finer details, you'll easily see why the TLX is the better deal of the two.
Performance
Depending on your drive style, the latest TLX comes in two different engines for a flexible choice. The standard engine is a front-wheel drive at 272 horsepower which is already more than average and is sure to impress your friends. However, the new TLX also got Acura's patented Type S treatment with a twin-turbo V6 engine standard with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive at 355 horsepower. A 10-speed auto transmission allows you to adapt your drive everywhere you go, and available summer tires with 20-inch wheels let you tread the road with minimal effort.
The Q50 comes standard with a 300-horsepower engine which is significantly less than the TLX Type S. There's an available 400-horsepower engine, but the engine design is far too complex. Unless you're a certified Infiniti expert, it'll be near impossible to work on the engine by yourself. Alternatively, taking it to a qualified mechanic for repairs is almost sure to break the bank. Another notable downside is that the Q50 comes with a 7-speed auto transmission which is much less impressive compared to the TLX.
Safety Features
The TLX already comes with the AcuraWatch suite of essential safety features, but you can experience even more with traffic-sign recognition and a driver-awareness monitor. Forward-Collision Warning with Automated Emergency Braking, Lane-Departure Warning, and Lane-Keeping Assist all come standard in the TLX with Blind-Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert being available options.
The most that the Q50 has to offer are basic safety features like Lane Departure Warning, Brake Assist, and Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention. While few drivers will feel lucky to have this much, Acura is more dedicated to keeping you out of harm's way. After driving these two vehicles back-to-back, you'll learn to love the care that's been put into the TLX's line of driving assist features.
Interior
Acura has found an excellent balance between performance and luxury in the TLX's interior design which is the entire point of owning a luxury sports sedan in the first place. The moment you step foot into the cabin, you're greeted with smooth and elegant materials like open-pore wood and real aluminum shaped into a sporty aesthetic for a match made in heaven. The TLX does a great job of picking and choosing which aspects to make luxurious while keeping certain parts traditional such as analog gauges in the driver information cluster for an authentic feel. The TLX also doesn't skimp on modern technology for an overall fun and exciting ride:
● Ambient lighting
● 10.2-inch infotainment screen
● Touchpad controls
● 10.5-inch head-up display (HUD)
● Rotary drive mode selector
● Available ELS audio system with 16 speakers
The interior of the latest Q50 looks so basic that you would believe it's just an ordinary car at first glance. You'd have a hard time finding any elements to verify that it's classified as a luxury vehicle other than the premium Bose sound system. The infotainment screen is only 8 inches which is significantly smaller than the TLX's screen, and there is no HUD to be found.
Bottom Line
For a true sports luxury sedan that's both powerful and fun to drive, the 2023 Acura TLX is the better choice. The Q50 isn't a very terrible car, but the TLX definitely has more to offer in more ways than one. You're sure to become the center of attention amongst your friends in an Acura that's stunning inside and out.
