2022 Acura MDX vs. 2022 Kia Telluride

2022 Acura MDX vs. 2022 Kia Telluride
An SUV should be able to provide a fun and thrilling ride for everyone who tags along. This can be determined by the quality of the drive and the number of fun, useful, and convenient features. Where can you find such an experience? Today, Maus Acura of North Tampa is here to compare the 2022 Acura MDX and the 2022 Kia Telluride.
2022 Acura MDX vs. 2022 Kia Telluride
The 2022 Acura MDX is specifically advertised as a premium performance SUV, and we couldn't agree more. There is so much to brag about under the hood, plus the atmosphere of the cabin will have everyone wanting to stay in the car as long as they can. Meanwhile, the Telluride has a lot to learn from Acura's featured SUV.
Performance
You can choose between two very impressive engines for the 2022 MDX. The 3.5L V6 comes standard and offers 290 horsepower which is already incredible, but those who indulge in the Type S model can enjoy a 3.0L engine with 355 horsepower. Both versions support a 10-speed automatic transmission, but that's not even the best part. Aside from the powertrain, the MDX was literally built for performance as you can see in the double-wishbone front suspension for more ground connection, wider wheels for responsive handling, variable-ratio steering for precision control, and an ultra-rigid chassis with a longer wheelbase to reduce road vibrations and ambient noises. The Acura MDX is proof that engine power alone isn't what determines overall performance, and the Type S model takes that statement even further.
Type S Bonus Driving Features |
● Large Brembo front brake calipers ● Upsized rotors ● NSX-inspired Electro-Servo brakes ● Dynamic air suspension for 9.4-inch ground clearance ● Quad exhaust outlets ● Sport+ mode for firmer dampers, quicker throttle response, and lower ride height at higher speeds |
The only available engine for the 2022 Telluride offers 291 horsepower which practically matches the MDX's standard but doesn't come close to the Type S. And unlike the MDX, the Telluride wasn't built for performance as you can see from the lack of features available to enhance your drive. On the contrary, the Telluride has been known to be unresponsive at times and even veer off its path due to instability. Obviously, these are faults that no driver wants to deal with on the road.
Safety Features
With Acura, it's always safety first when it comes to their beloved customers. With the MDX, you can rest assured knowing that AcuraWatch will actively work to keep you safe and you get the luxury of added features with the additional Safety & Driver Assist technologies designed to give you more awareness and control of your surroundings.
The Telluride comes with a good handful of useful safety features, but it still pales in comparison to the MDX. And with how unpredictable the road can be, you never know if lacking a certain feature would get you in a predicament that could have been avoided otherwise. Basically, when it comes to your safety, the more features the better.
Standard Safety Features

2022 Kia Telluride |
● Collision Mitigation Braking System ● Road Departure Mitigation ● Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow ● Lane Keeping Assist System ● Pedestrian Detection ● Traffic Sign Recognition ● Traffic Jam Assist |

Interior
While the new Acura MDX provides you with optimal performance, you also get to enjoy a luxurious ride with everything you could possibly want. Your comfort is a priority with authentic materials for the seats and trims, a panoramic moonroof, and ambient lighting. While you might find these features in other SUVs, Acura enhanced each component to be even better. The front seats support 16-way power adjustments with massaging capability. The wide moonroof is able to be precisely adjusted with CabinControl to bring you the exact shade and atmosphere that you want. And lastly, Iconic Drive Ambient Cabin Lighting has 27 different themes to choose from with LEDs that line the entirety of the interior including the door panels. Other available interior features include:
● An ELS Studio 3D Signature Edition Premium Audio System with 25 speakers
● A 12.3-in HD Center Display
● 95 cubic feet of maximum cargo space
The interior of the Telluride isn't terrible, but it comes up short next to the MDX. The infotainment touchscreen is only 10.3 inches, the front seating only has a 12-way power adjustment with no massage features, the Harman Kardon audio system only has 10 speakers, the sunroof doesn't have precise adjustment options, and the maximum cargo space caps out at 21 cubic feet.
Bottom Line
As you can see, you'd be doing yourself a huge favor by choosing the MDX over the Telluride. You're guaranteed better performance and more interior features that you'll be glad you had. Once again, Acura takes the lead in optimal performance in every way imaginable.
