Acura TLX Type S vs. Genesis G70

Acura TLX Type S vs. Genesis G70

The Acura TLX Type S and the Genesis G70 are both 300+ horsepower sports sedans with turbocharged 6-cylinder engines and AWD, and while they serve different niches, they excel immensely at one thing: being more affordable alternatives to high-priced luxury German sports sedans. So, what happens if pit them against each other in a comparison?

Our team at Maus Acura of North Tampa compares these two sports cars so you can decide which car is best for you!

Performance

Both vehicles are evenly matched when it comes to power, and the TLX Type S is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 hp and 354 lb.-ft of torque. The G70 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 with 365 hp and 376 lb.-ft of torque.

The Acura TLX Type S comes with a 10-speed transmission while the Genesis G70 comes with an 8-speed.

When it comes to fuel economy the Acura TLX Type S is the winner with 19 mpg in the city, 25 on the highway, and 21 combined. The Genesis G70 offers 17 in the city, 25 on the highway, and 20 combined.

Exterior

Both vehicles are built to thrill with sporty styling, but the differences in the exterior are clear.

Grille

The G70 Sport is equipped with an understated and attractive crosshatched grille.

The TLX Type S makes an aggressive statement with a striking open-surface Diamond-shaped grille with large air ducts and an expansive sculpted hood.

Headlights

LED headlights with a single dominant lighting element come standard on the G70.

The TLX Type S is equipped with four LED light elements in its headlights plus Acura's signature Chicane LED daytime running lights.

Wheels

The G70 features 19-inch wheels, and larger options are not available.

The TLX Type S comes equipped with 20-inch shark gray alloy wheels that perfectly complement its aggressive styling.

Exhaust

Dual exhaust outlets come standard on the G70 and blend into its rear profile.

Amplifying its aggressive sportiness, the TLX Type S comes with large quad exhaust outlets.

Interior

The Acura TLX Type S was designed to turn heads and offers both the driver and front passenger heated and ventilated Ultrasuede-trim leather sport seats with a 16-way power adjustment with plenty of shoulder, hip, and elbow room.

You can also create the perfect driving mood with Iconic Drive Ambient Cabin Lighting which features 27 themes that are inspired by the world's most iconic drives and racetracks.

The G70 features standard leather seats and a spacious luxurious feeling cabin equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen. The Acura TLX Type S comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Further, the G70 has a traditional round steering wheel while the TLX Type S has a flat-bottom steering wheel for a highly engaging driving experience.

Safety & Tech

To help enhance safety, the front and rear seat belts of the Acura TLX Type S have pretensioners that tighten the seatbelts and eliminate any slack while also limiting the pressure that the belts will exert on the passengers in the event of an accident. The Genesis G70 does not offer these for the rear seat belts.

Both the TLX S Type and the G70 offer standard airbags, antilock brakes, traction control, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available AWD, blind-spot warning systems, and more!

The TLX Type S also features the industry's most intuitive touchscreen system with the True Touchpad Interface and a 10.2-inch display. The G70 has an 8-inch touchscreen.

Ergonomics

If you leave your TLXs windows open you can close them all with the outside door handle, or from a distance using the keyless remote. In the G70, you can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle if the ignition is on.

The TLX comes standard with speed and rain-sensitive windshield wipers that speed up as the vehicle does so you don't have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The G70 does not come with this feature.

Bottom Line

As you can see, both sports cars both offer various amenities that make them standouts in the luxury sports car market, but in our opinion, the Acura TLX Type S edges out the Genesis G70 on so many levels!

From mood lighting features and ergonomics to exterior features, the Acura TLX Type S was designed to impress and is sure to stand out when you test drive it!
