2024 Acura Integra Type S vs 2024 BMW 235i
You’re in the big leagues now if you’re considering high-performance sports cars from top manufacturers like Acura and BMW. If you’re here for unbridled power and thrills, we’ll tell you right now that the Integra Type S is well worth the cash as it puts out greater power and tuned handling. Nothing against BMW, but the M235i might not be as much of a daredevil as its competitor. With the 2024 Acura Integra Type S starting at $51,995 and the 2024 BMW M235i starting at $48,300, trust us when we say that you’ll be getting more bang for your buck with the Integra at just a little bit more.
Performance
Starting off strong, the new 2024 Acura Integra Type S features a robust 2.0L Turbocharged engine bringing you up to 320 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Spoiler alert, that’s much more than the M235i. This year’s Integra has been re-tuned for greater performance with improved adaptive dampers and electronic power steering assist maps. We also like how the Integra Type S offers 3 useful drive modes, but what we’re about to say next will come as a relief to many gearheads out there. A major selling point in the new Integra Type S is the 6-speed manual transmission system in an era where not only are EVs becoming more prevalent, but manuals have practically gone extinct.
Moving on to the new BMW 235i, its 2.0L Turbo engine can only put out up to 302 horsepower which is already less impressive than its competitor. The M Sport suspension has been crafted to deliver top performance with a stiffer body, but many have reported the 235i to be too stiff causing bumps and jolts on the road. Normally we wouldn’t find the 8-speed automatic system to be bad at all, but going with the 6-speed manual in the Integra is much too tempting to pass up, especially since manuals are on their way out. Who knows when you’ll come across another opportunity?
Safety Features
Safety might not be the first thing you think of when shopping for a performance car, but it’s even more important in sports cars than your average ride. When you go with the Integra Type S, you can trust in the usual on-brand features that Acura is known for such as the AcuraWatch package with all of your essentials as well as support for upgraded features when you want it. While we always encourage you to drive safely, also know that Acura has done what it can to grant you added protection on the road.
BMW may be a household name for some, but that doesn’t mean you can expect reliability. The new BMW M235i is a prime example, hardly offering as much as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, emergency braking, and blind spot warning for the high price that you’re paying. These are features that come standard in your average car, even the lower-priced ones.
Interior
Acura always delivers sporty fashion in all of its cars, and with the Integra being their prized sedan, you can expect nothing less than top-tier style. The new 2024 Acura Integra Type S features perforated seats with extreme grip to keep you secure during all of your sporty adventures. Acura also found creative ways to control noise in the Integra Type S without relying on technology, like heavy insulation and a modified exhaust system. Playing into the well-crafted interior is the exciting color scheme of red and black, or the available Ebony and Orchid combination.
Leather sports seats come in the new BMW 235i, but that’s the highlight of this car’s performance-inspired styling. The rest of the cabin looks pretty ordinary compared to the effort put into the Integra Type S, and even the cargo capacity is smaller with the M235i offering 15.2 cubic feet of trunk space and the Integra providing as much as 24 cubic feet. It’s also hard to beat the Integra’s 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D audio system that gets a party going in the car.
Bottom Line
There’s a reason why the Integra always generates a ton of hype, and the 2024 Acura Integra Type S proves our point by offering great power and technology in impeccable style. BMW has a ways to go before Integra fans choose the M235i instead, and we’re not entirely sure that day will ever come to pass unless the brand decides to finally put its best foot forward and try a little harder.
