2024 Acura ZDX vs 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

If you want the best of both electric driving and sportiness, it’s not enough to simply equip a sports car with a battery. Like changing up the ingredients in a recipe, you need to account for how well each component works with each other and make the necessary adjustments. Acura accomplished this feat with the 2024 ZDX, making use of the increased power that comes with electric motors and meeting the aesthetic allure of the all-electric future. Ford has a lot to learn, as it feels like the Mustang Mach-E is missing the heart of what makes an EV stand out

Performance

Even with the lowest A-Spec RWD trim for the new ZDX, you get a great amount of zippiness in the single-motor setup with 358 horsepower. However, the A-Spec AWD kicks it up a notch with a dual-motor powertrain
that puts out 490 horsepower and 437 lb-ft of torque. If you want to amp up your capacity, the ZDX Type S boosts you up to 500 horsepower with 544 lb-ft of torque. When you go with the Type S, you will also get to drive in style with yellow Brembo brake calipers and the Adaptive Air Suspension which
automatically adjusts the height of the car for a less bumpy ride. The all-electric performance benefits don’t start and end at the motors. Witness what EVs can do with the ZDX’s towing capacity of 3,500 pounds and a maximum driving range of 313 miles.

Unlike its competitor, the Mustang Mach-E offers RWD models that are severely lacking in power ranging from 266-290 hp. This ride is only worth it if you go all-out on the GT and GT Performance AWD models, but even then you’re only getting up to 480 horsepower which doesn’t stack up to the ZDX Type S. Aside from carrying the Mustang name, there’s not much else going on with this sporty EV other than offering up to 312 miles of range.

Safety Features

Just because it’s in a drastically different category doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice any of the usual benefits. In fact, it’s quite the opposite! The 2024 ZDX still comes standard with AcuraWatch which includes 8 safety and drive-assist features to help keep you aware and safe on the road. Other than that,
the latest ZDX also offers a new AcuraWatch 360+ package which includes Hands Free Cruise for fully autonomous driving. It also features Automatic Parking Assist, which would be the first for an Acura model. We love this feature solely for the fact that it can parallel park for you! The Digital Rearview Mirror continues to be an excellent display of new-age technology, using cameras to produce an image that you may not be able to see normally. To top it off, the 2024 ZDX qualifies for the Acura Maintenance Program which includes factory-scheduled maintenance for up to a year or 12,000 miles.

Going over the safety features in the ZDX was quite a mouthful, and unfortunately, there’s not nearly as much to say about the Mustang Mach-E. Automated braking and blind-spot monitoring come standard, and you can opt for the available adaptive cruise control system. BlueCruise is Ford’s hands-free driving program, but Acura curated an entire high-tech ecosystem in the ZDX that’s much more appealing and useful.

Interior

All sports cars should exude a feeling of luxury to some degree, and the latest ZDX accomplishes this flawlessly with genuine materials like real aluminum accents and Milano leather trim. The 16-way powered front seats are also heated and ventilated, offering maximum comfort for your thrilling adventures. But of course, the entertainment factor is prominent enough to call any ride a win or a bust. You won’t have to worry about that with Acura because the ZDX comes standard with an 18-speaker B&O sound system with BEOSONIC technology which is designed to customize your music-listening experience to your personal preferences with a single touch of a button.

To sum it up, the Mustang Mach-E has heated front seats without the 16-way power adjustments or fancy Milano leather trim. It also features a B&O soundsystem but without the intuitive BEOSONIC personalized feature. Everything that the Mustang Mach-E does, the Acura ZDX simply does better.

Bottom Line

It’s clear that Acura put a lot of thought into the design process when crafting the 2024 Acura ZDX, making great use of its electric platform, offering brand-new tech, and creating a fun and comfortable interior. As we suspected, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E feels like your ordinary Mustang that rides on an electric motor. That could have passed when EVs were in their testing stage, but at this point, the masses know what EVs are capable of and are sure to be the wiser when choosing their ride.
