Is it worth it to go with a luxury sports car, or stick with the tried-and-true brand that’s known for high performance? We’re about to put things into perspective for you in this exciting comparison between the new 2024 Acura TLX and the 2024 Genesis G80! Be sure to swing by Maus Acura of North Tampa for incredible performance cars near you, or check out our new inventory online.
If you have the choice, why not go with a sports car that also promises high-end luxury? Because you’ll lose the essence of what makes a remarkable performance car, as is the case with the latest G80. Meanwhile, Acura continues to take first place in the exciting realm of sports cars with the newest TLX which delivers a thrilling experience that’s difficult to match.
The new TLX comes with a 2.0L VTEC turbocharged engine, and we didn’t expect anything less. This iconic powertrain is capable of 272 horsepower with 280 lb-ft of torque, and while this is an incredible feat, it doesn’t mark the limit of what the TLX is capable of. Upgrade to the TLX Type S to get your hands on the highly-desired 3.0L V6 Turbo with 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. But the engine isn’t the only thing that makes the Acura name famous. The latest TLX continues to carry the torch by offering the patented SH-AWD system which works wonders when paired with the Adaptive Damper System. There’s so much more to admire about the build, like the electro-servo brake system, ultra-rigid chassis, and double-wishbone front suspension that all bring peak precision and handling to the TLX. Exclusive to the Type S model is the quad exhaust for a robust presence.
Despite being a luxury-first type of sports car, the Genesis G80 happens to offer just a little more horsepower with 300 in the standard 2.5T engine and 375 in the 3.5T. But as you already know, horsepower alone doesn’t make a performance-driven ride. You need a special build complete with meticulous crafting, and that’s what the G80 lacks. Look past its engine, and you won’t find much else to promote better precision and handling.
Offering more than what we would normally expect from a sports car, the 2024 Acura TLX comes standard with AcuraWatch which includes a hefty handful of useful safety and driver-assist features. On top of these basic features, you also have the option to include a Blind Spot Information System, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, and a Surround View Camera. Take a look at what comes in AcuraWatch:
Genesis was not as generous in their standard features. The G80 barely includes automatic emergency braking and lane assist, with additional features like extra monitors and remote parking coming at an extra cost.
The inside of the 2024 TLX looks exactly as it should…like a very fun and promising sports car. The ergonomic sports chairs (dressed in full-grain Milano leather) are bolstered to bring you comfort and stability during your joy rides, and there have also been some aesthetic choices during the design process that we appreciate like real aluminum accents, sports pedals, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The TLX makes late-night drives especially exciting with Iconic Drive ambient cabin lighting featuring up to 24 distinct modes and the available 17-speaker ELS Studio 3D Premium audio system with four overhead installments for immersive sound. Everything is easily accessible with the True TouchPad Interface, an Acura exclusive that plays into your hand’s natural positioning on the center console.
Genesis did what they do best, and that’s grace the G80 in luxury materials. They succeeded by including quilted Nappa leather and matte-finish wood trim, but where is the sports car spirit? You won’t find it here as Genesis prioritized making the G80 feel like the rest of their lineup even if that’s not what the average performance seeker wants.
If performance and excitement are what matters most to you, then we believe the 2024 Acura TLX will be more up your alley. The build quality is something to admire, and there’s a reason the Type S is critically acclaimed. When you get into the TLX, you can’t help but feel like you truly belong on the track, equipped with everything you need to run laps. On the other hand, the Genesis G80 simply feels like your typical Genesis car lined with authentic materials but with a better engine, devoid of what people actually look for in a sports car.
