Review Roundup: 2021 Acura TLX | Maus Acura of North Tampa

The Acura TLX is stacking up praise from all around the country. U.S. News & World Report calls the TLX impressive with its stylish cabin, surefooted handling, blissful ride, and spry engine performance. The publication notes its composed ride and handling, zippy turbocharged engine, high-end interior, and low starting price. See what some of the other top consumer intelligence companies have to say about this premium sport sedan.
Exterior Quality
“Looking almost identical to the handsome Acura Precision Concept car, the 2021 TLX is an attractive midsize sedan that showcases the automaker’s latest design themes to dramatic effect,” writes J.D. Power. “Acura focused on what is known as the ‘dashboard-to-axle’ ratio, moving the car’s cabin further back on the vehicle’s platform to visually reduce front overhang and facilitate a long hood and more dramatic front fenders. The resulting proportions mimic those of a proper luxury sport sedan, and thanks to the cohesive and compelling design, Acura need not resort to extraneous detailing to add character or make the TLX look ‘sporty.’”
Interior Design
According to J.D. Power, the redesigned TLX’s new approach to interior design results in a “low, expansive, and layered dashboard rendered in the high-quality materials commonly found in the company’s vehicles.” U.S. News & World Report writes, “The Acura TLX boasts a sporty interior design to back up its aggressive exterior. The overall look and feel is certainly nice.” The TLX, Car and Driver writes, has an expressive design that highlights its sporty character. “These include attractive analog gauges and a prominent rotary drive-mode selector in the middle of the dashboard.” The publication goes on to say, “Solidified by Acura’s excellent build quality, the TLX also boasts nicer cabin materials than its predecessor, including open-pore wood and real aluminum. Its highly adjustable front seats and excellent forward visibility reward drivers. Included is a large 10.5-inch head-up display and customizable ambient-lighting settings that are each named after iconic driving destinations and racetracks, such as ‘Pacific Coast’ and ‘Suzuka.’”
TLX Ride and Handling
The review by J.D. Power notes that the TLX’s braking is outstanding, and the pedal feel is remarkably good. The system delivers instant but light braking response, followed by progressively strong application as you push harder on the pedal. This approach definitely contributes to the TLX’s smooth driving character. ”The Acura TLX has well-rounded driving dynamics,” U.S News & World Report writes. “The TLX feels stable and composed around turns, with minimal body lean. One of the TLX’s best attributes is its polished ride. The suspension soaks up bumps and dips in the road comfortably while still giving drivers a good feel for the road surface. The TLX Advance model’s adaptive suspension smooths out the ride even further.”
Sound System
J.D. Power gushes over the superior sound system, saying, “The top-shelf sound system for the new TLX is a 17-speaker, 710-watt component set tuned by Grammy award-winning music producer Elliot Scheiner. Named after him, the ELS Studio 3D surround sound system employs four overhead speakers and Twin Telford dual subwoofers. How does it sound? With Acura’s prescribed setup and provided USB containing specific digital music files, it’s impressive.”
TLX Safety
U.S. News & World Report notes that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2021 TLX a Top Safety Pick+, giving it the highest rating of Good in all six crashworthiness tests. “It also received a Good rating for how well the headlights illuminate the road ahead. The IIHS uses a different scale for evaluating collision avoidance features. The TLX earned the highest rating of Superior for its standard front crash prevention systems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not crash tested the 2021 TLX, but the nearly identical 2020 model received an overall safety rating of five out of five stars.” For car seats, the Acura TLX “has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH setup the highest rating of Good+, which means it’s among the easiest systems to use.”
